School holiday activities

These school holidays bring the family to visit the UQ Anthropology Museum. The Museum offers Brisbane children a unique opportunity to engage with and think about ways of life other than their own.

The Museum’s current exhibition, Strong Women Strong Painting Strong Culture, celebrates Central Australian Indigenous women's art with a variety of works from big, bold and bright canvases to small and cuddly blanket animals. Interpretive labels and panels talk about desert life and the wonderful film “Tjanpi Nyawa! (Look at the grass!)” illustrates how some of the sculptural works have been created.

The Museum has fun and free worksheets for kids to encourage exploration and critical thinking. Colouring-in sheets and materials for drawing are also available for the young or not so young, with the exhibition as inspiration. Annotations to the room notes also provide talking points for children.

Our friendly and knowledgeable Gallery staff are always willing to guide you through the exhibition and to answer any questions. The whole family can enjoy this beautiful, energetic and insightful show.

Strong Women Strong Painting Strong Culture will run until January 25 and the Museum is open seven days a week from 11am to 4pm. It will be closed over Christmas between December 22 and January 4 inclusive.
